What is Plantar Fasciitis?

The most common heel pain condition known to man is plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis occurs as a result of inflammation in the band of tissue across the bottom of the foot that connects the heel to the ball of the foot.

A pad of fat in your heel covers the plantar fasciitis to help absorb the shock of walking, thus supporting the arch in your foot. It’s characterized by severe pain when arising from the bed that usually improves with some walking but always returns the next day and in many cases is debilitating during the day with long-term standing.

Recurrence is usually rare after proper treatment, if you continue to employ good mechanical foot control and continue to wear orthotics with good supportive walking or athletic shoes.

At Mid Florida Foot, Ankle & Vein Clinic, our staff takes the time to show patients the correct technique with videos we've recorded. They demonstrate the proper technique and we find this method of teaching yields the best results!
